For those who are looking for a buffer time between the international and domestic leg of your trip in PNG, ProdivePNG and Loloata resort are based in the Bootless Bay area and offers a range of reef and wreck dives.
Lion Island
Sheltered sites in the bay which offers several wrecks and macro diving. Visibility often reduced due to runoffs.
Big Drop
Best location to encounter sharks and rays locally. Also offers near vertical dropoffs.
Suzie's Bommie
One of the signature dive site around Bootless bay, a pinnacle with resident schooling sweetlips and snappers. Prone to strong currents.
The tunnel
A 5-10m long swim through on the barrier reef with a resident school of squirrel fish inside it. Also known for ornate ghost pipefish during winter times.
Pai II
A very well dived shipwreck locally due to its location being sheltered from SE winds.
Pacific Gas
A large and deeper wreck (43m max) which offers large swim throughs and more adventurous wreck penetration.
Quayle's Reef
A patch reef in the middle of the channel which can be circumnavigated in a dive. Also boasts 2 wrecks on either side of the reef - the Lucent and the Burai.
Baldwin's Bommie
Similar to Suzie's bommie in terms of layout. However with the absence of schooling sweetlips, pelagics such as leopard shark and other reef shark can be encountered around the bommie itself.
Di's Delight
A good 15-30 minute ride east of horseshoe reef dive sites. A trio of small pinnacles rising from 30m to 8m and featuring 2 channels covered with 2x2m sized gorgonian seafans. Current can be strong at times.
Pumpkin Patch
A series of seaward facing coral pinnacles between Tubusereia and Gaire. A known site for resident lacy scorpionfish, reef sharks and a small colony of sweetlips.
