Compared to East New Britain, West New Britain is relatively quiet and unexplored. From POM it takes around an hour to fly to Hoskins which is around 1.5 hours away from Kimbe (the main town) by road. Beside from being a world class diving destination, this area of WNBP is famous for its oil palm plantation (it is worth taking the window seat to look at the size of these plantations!). It also boasts at least two intact plane wreckage near the Talasea airstrip from World War 2.
Most would visit Kimbe by flying to Hoskins from Port Moresby which would take around 1 hour. There's also the option to travel by road from Kokopo in East New Britain.
Walindi resort is located west of Kimbe and it takes about 1.5 - 2 hours by road from the airport.
Liamo resort is located in Kimbe town and that's around 30 minutes from the airport.
Baia fishing lodge can also be accessed from Hoskins.
Scuba diving and sport fishing are the main attractions in the local area. However there's also opportunities to hike up the mountains for bird watching and visiting local villages.
Mosquito repellent is a must. Stock up on personal supplies in Kimbe before venturing further.
The local villagers are more surprised to see you passing by! The PMVs (think about this being a bus for the local communities) are often filled to the brim. The sheer size of oil palm plantations particularly around the coastal area.
